Date Night Fridays: Scrooged

In the amusing Christmas movie Scrooged (1988), Bill Murray plays Francis Xavier Cross, a top New York television company executive with a serious chip on his shoulder. While trying to salvage relationships with his girlfriend, his co-workers and his family, Francis learns the hard facts of life from an entertaining trio of Christmas ghosts representing his past, present and future.
Murray’s joined by an amazing cast which includes Karen Allen, John Forsythe, Robert Mitchum, John Houseman, Lee Majors, David Johansen, Robert Goulet, Carol Kane and Bobcat Goldthwait. To match the depth of these entertaining characters, try the Limerick Lane 2009 Zinfandel, 1934 Block, Russian River Valley ($42). Planted in 1934, this special vineyard features a one-of-a-kind blend of zinfandel and smaller amounts of petite sirah, peloursin and alicante bouschet. The end result is a big, bold and stately wine with concentrated flavors of ripe blueberries, boysenberry, violet, lavender, smoke, with a hint of cumin on the finish. Pour yourself a glass, kick back, and notice how these lively flavors continue to expand along with the mixture of festive drama, dark humor and lavish music composed by Danny Elfman in this hilarious holiday treat.
